1986 IMMIGRATION LAW O.K.
THE NON-ENFORCEMENT SCAM
We are not a nation of laws if we do not adhere to The Rule of Law. We have not enforced the 1986 Immigration Law. At all. Every President since 1986 should be arrested and put in jail for that failure. Deported even.
The 1986 Immigration law was signed by President Reagan in November of 1986. It was crafted by Alan Simpson, a crotchety pragmatic Republican and a Democrat, Romano Mazzoli.
The new law made sense and had the following criteria:
- Improved security at our borders. Generally, this has happened.
- Workplace protection for agricultural workers. This did not happen.
- Criminalization for employer hiring of illegals. Employers were supposed to ask every employee to complete a E-9 form to prove they were here legally. This is where our leaders let us down. Criminally.
Twenty years later, in 2006, Simpson and Mazzoli wrote in the Washington Post that the problem then and now is enforcement. They put it this way; “... administrations of both stripes are loathe to disrupt economic activities - i.e. labor supply in factories, farms and businesses". In other words everybody ignored the enforcement mechanisms because U.S. business interests wanted cheap labor.
Businesses got around the E-9 form requirement by hiring from subcontractors who supplied the workers. Since the subcontractors were not “employers” they did not have to do the legalization check. And everybody turned their eyes away.
What gets me is that the media doesn’t report on this simple story. Law enforcement officials and Presidents get a free pass. And Arizona wonders why they have a border problem. Take away the employment magnet by enforcing the law and it would have stopped a generation ago.
